Most Leatherman Supertool Reviews class the Supertool is as a heavy duty multitool. I’d agree; it certainly is heavy. But then again it’s rugged too. Currently in it’s third revision the current model is known more correctly as the “Leatherman Supertool 300“. Before this it was known as the Supertool 200. I bought my father one many years ago now. If you don’t mind carrying a little extra weight around on your hip the Leatherman Supertool Multitool is worth checking out. It’s one of the strongest multitools available.
Personally, I kind of don’t like to carry around too much weight and I think the Leatherman Supertool is too heavy and bulky for me. I have no justification for a heavy duty tool and find that it’s “smaller” brother the Leatherman Wave does me just fine.
The Leatherman Supertool has a comprehensive toolset. If you are a builder or tradesman or someone who has to rely on this kind of multitool for their living then it would surely be hard to go past.
One of my friends works for a shipbuilder in my hometown. All of the workers, himself included were issued these tools by their employer a few years ago. He told me he uses his Leatherman Supertool everyday for some job or another and would not be without his. The only issue he could relate was when they were first handed out at work, there were like a lot of accidental cuts related to the razor sharp serrated knife blade. Guys were generally careless when opening it and they paid the price. But once you learn how to properly open it there is no problem at all.
Being able to replace the carbide cutters of the Leatherman Supertool is certainly a positive factor. If you do a lot of wire cutting and the few extra ounces in weight don’t bother you then this might be the tool for you.
Of course it would be hard to break but if you ever did, it is backed up by Leatherman’s unbeatable 25 year warranty system. If this Leatherman Supertool review has been helpful please read our reviews of other popular multitools as well.
